BROW LIFT FAQs
What is a Browplasty/ Brow Lift surgery in Dubai?
Brow Lift is a safe and effective cosmetic surgery aimed at raising the position of sagging eyebrows to their higher natural position on the face and smoothening the skin on the forehead by removing frown lines and furrows.
Wrinkles on our faces are the first signs of aging and also the most obvious. Not only do they make us look older, but our frown lines also make us look tired, angry, or stressed. You can look decades younger and alive by surgically removing these with a Brow Lift or Browplasty. The Brow Lift surgery in Dubai will leave you with a smoother forehead and alert, refreshed eyes.
A Brow Lift is often combined with a Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) or a Facelift for maximum impact.
How is Brow Lift surgery performed?
Brow Lift is usually done under general anesthesia or sedation. During the surgery, your plastic surgeon will mark your forehead and make incisions along where the skin is to be lifted.
Depending on the technique used to perform the Forehead Lift, the incision may be just below the hairline and running across the forehead, or there may be several small incisions on the scalp. Through the incisions, the surgeon lifts the underlying skin and tissue, removes excess tissue and skin, and places the remaining skin in position – thus raising the eyebrows upwards, correcting their droopiness, and smoothening the forehead. The incisions are then closed. The result is tighter skin on your forehead and lifted eyebrows, making you look more awake, youthful, and rejuvenated.
How is a Brow Lift surgery different from a Blepharoplasty? Which one do I need? Or do I need both?
A Brow Lift addresses the concerns of those whose brows have sagged to a lower position on their face and have, therefore, hooded upper eyelids. If lifting the brows fixes the “hooding” or droopiness of the upper eyelids, and you have no other concerns about the look of your eyes, then a Brow Lift may be enough for you.
An Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty or Upper Eyelid Surgery removes excess skin, tissue, fat, and muscle between the eyebrow and eyelash but does not reposition your eyebrows. Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty addresses concerns of eyebags, fine lines, and wrinkles on the lower eyelids. If your problem is sagging eyelids, but not sagging brows, then an Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty alone may be right for you.
You may need both if you have both sagging eyebrows and sagging eyelids. Additionally, you may need both if you want to correct wrinkles on your forehead and address under-eye bags, wrinkles, and droopy eyelids.
Your plastic surgeon will advise you on what is ideal for you.
Who is an ideal candidate for Brow Lift surgery in Dubai?
Brow Lift surgery is indicated for adult men or women whose brows have sagged lower on their faces due to aging or weight loss, resulting in a hooded appearance of their upper eyelids. People with vertical frown lines between their eyebrows or horizontal furrows on their forehead can also benefit from a Brow/ Forehead Lift Surgery in Dubai.
The ideal candidate should be a generally healthy person. They should not have any medical condition that could interfere with wound healing.
Before ensuring your candidature for the Brow Lift, your plastic surgeon will review your medical history and past and present health condition. You will have to discuss your medication, including any herbal supplements.
As a possible Brow Lift candidate, you must have realistic expectations about your resultant appearance after the procedure. You must stop smoking before and after the surgery, as tobacco can slow down the blood flow to the skin and thereby slow down the healing process.
The surgery will show desirable results only on people who are generally healthy and do not have any previous history of having cardiac issues, pulmonary emboli, excessive bleeding, seizures, immunodeficiency disorders, or deep vein thrombosis. People with such conditions are discouraged from undergoing this procedure due to a higher risk of surgical complications.
People on specific anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant drugs are also discouraged from undergoing a Brow Lift or Forehead Lift surgery.
What are the different techniques of Brow Lift surgery?
The different techniques for performing a Brow/ Forehead Lift are:
Internal Brow Lift: Browpexy is a Brow Lift technique only and does not involve the forehead. It helps achieve a minimal brow lift at the outside edge of the brow. It uses the same incision as an upper eyelid Blepharoplasty and is usually combined with it.
Direct Brow Lift: This is also a Brow Lift technique only and does not involve smoothening the forehead. It involves making an incision directly above the hairline of the eyebrows and lifting the brow through there.
Open/ Classic/ Traditional Brow Lift: The classic or traditional brow lift is rarely used these days as it is significantly more invasive. The traditional or “open” Brow Lift can be sub-categorized into:
– Pretrichial Brow/ Forehead Lift – For people with significant sagging of brows and a high hairline, a pretrichial Brow Lift may be used. This involves making an incision across the forehead, just under the hairline, going from temple to temple. Tissue and skin are lifted, the excess removed, balance repositioned, and incisions closed. The technique results in a subtle lowering of the hairline too.
– Coronal Brow/ Forehead Lift – This technique is similar to the pretrichial technique, except that the incisions are made 2-3 cm behind the hairline. It is indicated for people with significant drooping of brows and a low hairline. The hairline is subtly raised by making the incision deeper behind the hairline.
Endoscopic Brow/ Forehead Lift: This is the modern approach to a Brow/ Forehead Lift. Using this technique, the plastic surgeon makes 3-5 tiny incisions in the scalp behind the hairline. Then using an endoscope, the surgeon lifts and repositions the tissue, removes excess skin and tissue, and closes the incisions. This procedure is minimally invasive.
Temporal or Limited Incision Brow/ Forehead Lift: This is a limited variation of the Endoscopic Brow Lift and is helpful for people with only lateral drooping of the brows. The incisions are made only at the temples, and the skin and tissue are lifted laterally. This technique does not fix frown lines or furrows in the center of the forehead but will address droopiness at the outer edges of the upper eyelids and smoothening of the crow’s feet.
The technique of Brow Lift used for you will be determined by your surgeon, considering your facial anatomy, the type, extent of correction needed, aesthetic concerns, and other relevant factors.
What is the cost of Brow Lift surgery in Dubai?
The cost of Brow Lift in Dubai depends on the following factors:
- Skill and experience of the plastic surgeon
- Standard of the clinic/ hospital where the surgery will be performed
- The technique used for the surgery
- Extent of correction needed
- Whether the procedure is combined with other facial contouring surgeries or procedures
It is advised to get an initial consultation from a specialist plastic surgeon to know the cost applicable to your case and your eligibility for the procedure.
What anesthesia is usually given for Brow Lift surgery?
At our clinic for brow lift in Dubai, an Internal Brow Lift or Browpexy, Direct Brow Lift, and Temporal Brow Lift are mostly performed under local anesthesia or IV sedation. The Endoscopic and Traditional Brow Lifts are usually performed under general anesthesia at an accredited hospital in Dubai.
When can I resume normal activities after my Brow Lift surgery?
Most people can resume normal activities within 10-14 days. We recommend you schedule at least two weeks off after your Brow Lift surgery. The complete healing and recovery after the surgery will need more time.
Take note that even after two weeks off, you might be required to avoid specific activities until you fully recover. Light exercises can be started after three weeks. For people whose work involves strenuous physical activities, you’ll need to wait another 1-2 weeks before resuming your normal activities.
What recovery and post-operative precautions are needed after a Brow Lift surgery?
Most patients experience pain and discomfort after the surgery when anesthesia effects diminish. You will start to feel comfortable after 2-3 days.
Immediately after the Brow Lift, the incision locations will look red, bruised, uneven, swollen, or discolored, and scarring will also be visible. It is normal to feel some loss of sensation in the treated areas after the Brow Lift. This temporary numbness usually goes away once the part is completely healed.
You will be prescribed antibiotics to avoid infection. During your first week of recovery, you can expect issues with pain and bruising. The pain is managed with prescribed medications, and the bruising through cold compresses. You should get plenty of rest during this time.
After the first week of recovery, it is necessary to do a follow-up visit with your plastic surgeon to monitor your progress and to check the incision sites.
It would help if you slept with your head elevated until the swelling subsided. For the first 3 to 4 weeks, avoid driving, stretching, bending, lifting, or excessive facial movements.
After this period, you will have recovered enough to return to your routine as long as it does not involve strenuous physical activity. Pain and significant bruising will have subsided.
It is advised to stay away from all intense physical and athletic activities for at least four weeks after the surgery.
It is still best to do follow-up visits with your plastic surgeon for continuing post-surgical care.
When will the results of my Brow Lift surgery be visible?
Post-surgery, there will be an immediate visible improvement in the shape and appearance of your treated area. However, bruising and swelling may last for 4-6 weeks, though it will sufficiently reduce within 10-14 days to allow you to resume normal activities. The final results from your Brow Lift will typically be visible around six months after the procedure.
How can I maintain the results of my Brow Lift surgery?
Brow Lift results are typically long-lasting. However, the aging process, weight changes, injury, or illness can change your treated features in the future. Protecting yourself from sun exposure, following a proper skincare routine, and maintaining a healthy weight are recommended to maintain your results longer.
For best results, strictly follow the care instructions of your plastic surgeon before and after the surgery.
